Really good fried chicken in Eatontown, NJ

  • 5

I thought I'd share this with fellow Chowhounders. The fried chicken at the Grand China Buffet on Rte 36 Eastbound is really good. Crispy, well seasoned and cooked just right. This doesn't seem to be a fluke since I've had it at various times of the day and on several different days of the week. Enjoy!

  1. I agree, we try not to go there too often as I tend to over eat there but I do agree with you on the fried chicken. Also good fried chicken is located at the ACME in Lincroft on Newmen springs rd. and on Mondays you can get an entire eight peice chicken for $5.99.

I stumbled upon this post yesterday - a Monday, and a day where I had a hole in my dinner planning. Hubs and I being big fans of fried chicken, and having recently moved to Lincroft, we decided to give this chicken deal at Acme a try. It is now $6.99 on Mondays ($1 off the regular price for the other 6 days of the week), and a real deal for 8 pieces of chicken (2 each, breast, thigh, leg and wing). There was also a sign stating something like, as of earlier this year, the chicken source was being changed, so this may be different from when mdduck originally recommended it. The fried coating is pretty thick, like a double-batter, but nicely seasoned. It leaves a bit more fattiness below the crust than I prefer (Popeye's is actually one of my faves), but the chicken was cooked nicely. All in all, a good deal and a nice option to have around the corners. If you like fried chicken, it's definitely worth a try.

    2. Being from the area I can attest to the fact that the Grand China Buffet is actually a very good/quality buffet far beyond just Chinese food. Of course the crab legs is always the main draw....but their peel and eat shrimp are far from the the tiny ones you normally get. I would say they are 21/25's......they have fresh made sushi bar......and prime rib which is pretty darn good. They have a TON of non Chinese food all of which is generally very good. This has been a destination from when my children were small and I wouldn't take them to any form of fine dining....but now nearly 15 years later we still go back because of the quality. Good stuff!

(Acme has been doing the Cheap Chicken Monday for a long time as well and it is generally pretty good)

Regarding the peel & eat shrimp at Grand China Buffet; given my predilection for spicing up my food, I can't help but grab a dollop of wasabi paste from the sushi station and mix it into my cocktail sauce... :-)
