    1. The skit was awful. It would nave been potentially funny if they had used Bobby Moynihan or Jonah Hill to play her.

agree completely. I posted as it started here on the east coast with great hope. I expected it to be brilliant, but it was a catastrophe. Kristin Wiig should have nailed it. Likely she didn't have enough time to study the character of Paula and take advantage of the charicarture that is Deen.

What else about Deen is there to parody besides her accent and fondness for butter & oil, which were the dominant components of the skit? Wiig's enthusiasm is commendable, and going drag is old-hat for SNL (Snooki, Joy Behar, etc.).

Expecting anything on SNL to be brilliant is to beg for disappointment (I watch each new episode hoping for surprise. Sometimes I get it, more often I don't.)

      2. It's really tough to parody a parody.

        1. It's not the first time she has been played by Wiig. There was a fake commercial for paper towels in a 2010 show hosted by Scarlett Johanssen.

          1. Suddenly Paula Deen is everywhere on every show as judge or just (YAAAAY!!!!) celebrity. Does anyone else think the Food Network Gods are trying to rehab her in the public eye?

            1. Biggest problem was the absolutely TERRIBLE southern accent by Kristin Wiig - has she NEVER heard one, EVER?

              1. But she's LOWST thirty POWNDS ...... Y'all ....

Yes someone is obviously on positive damage control.
