PESACH SEDERS @ L.A. RESTAURANTS?
My message of a week ago about restaurant Seders in the L.A. Region went unanswered, so I am reposting! Last year, my senior parents from the Bay Area came for Pesach. After many years of making our own large family Seders, we decided to begin a restaurant tradition for both nights in L.A., where I now live as an adult. My dad felt it needed to be at least Kosher-Style, and there needed to be at least a minimal amount of the traditional singing & liturgy involved. We were very pleased with both the meal and the amount of tradition imbued in the SPAGO second-night Seder. We also enjoyed the food & Seder at JAR, but found it a bit deficient in the amount of tradition that the Seder utilized. This year we plan to again enjoy our 2nd Seder at Spago, but we were hoping to try something new for the first night. We were hoping to try KOUTOUBIA for a Morrocan Seder, but it is also only the second night. We were curious about AKASHA, but that, too, is only the 2nd night. Sue Fenniger's STREET seems a possibility, but they may not have one the first or 2nd night this year. Tribe and the Jewish Journal, sadly, ignored my request to publish an article listing restaurant Seders. I do know that the hunger- organization, "MAZON", is a recipient from proceeds of the Seders at SPAGO, JAR, & AKASHA. This was a means of my tracking a minute few that do Seders. I quickly realized that none of the Kosher Restaurants conduct Seders. I have some Orthodox Family, so I should have surmised as much! There were many dated CHOW Postings from 2011 and earlier that listed these additional spots for restaurant Seders: PINOT BISTRO, LA GANDOLA, CHEZ MELANGE, LA CACHETTE, THE GORBALS, IL MORO, ANGELI, ROSA MEXICANA, BISTRO GARDEN. A few of these are out of business, only serve "Pesach-Style Food" without the Seder, or said "Whats that!?", when inquired if their restaurant was having a first or second night Seder. Alas, unless anyone has new information, we may repeat JAR again & enjoy the yummy Pot Roast, Mini Latke Gravadlax & Creme Freche Appetizers, & the lovely Gospel Soloist that JAR has probably retained again. I am curious to know anyone's oppinions of Seders at STREET, AKASHA, KOUTOUBIA, or any others I have not (yet) been to. "Chag -Sameach or Happy Pesach to all! - JET
