Garage Sandwich it still around?

With all the new specialty joints opening up featuring tarted up simple/comfort food (e.g. gourmet burgers, gourmet grilled cheese, etc).

Was wondering if Garage Sandwich Company is still around? These guys had been offering high quality sandwiches (and amazing home made chili) for years, well before this latest trend of up-scaling the simple.

I know that the closed their shop and moved into the back of the Pusateri's (not the $$$ one) on Church. But as they are now far out of the way for me to make a sojourn, I was just wondering if they were still around, and if so, is the quality the same as before?

  1. According to Pusateri web site they're still there and have expanded the kitchen.

Yes, they are still in the back of Pusateri's on Church. Was in there yesterday.

    2. I'd not been in awhile and stopped in today. It's still great and I'd argue that it's one of the best sandwich offerings in the city. They've also added more hot foods for take out. There was a chicken pot pie, some veggie wraps, was in a hurry so didn't get a good look at the others.

Today was a great reminder that I need to get back here more often.

See "The Garage" is about to move into the space formerly occupied by "Village Rainbow" This is quite an increase in space for them and I Hope it works out.

Keep hearing the death bell for Pusateri's.

did big johnson's already close down? i never saw anyone in there....but the location was always a patio place-the village rainbow food was atrocious...

Yes, it closed down a few months ago. If possible the food was as bad or worse than The Village. The patio didn't seem to catch on at all. At least the Garage food was good albeit limited in the Pusateri's site.

The new "Garage" is definitely not affiliated at all with the Garage Sandwich Company that's been there for years. The GSC owner approached them about how it's probably not a good idea to use that name since he's been there for a long time they told him they were planning to change it. But then just went ahead and used it anyway. Randy's getting some press out of it which is probably a good thing!

The Chicken Pot Pie at GSC is an irregular special, but possibly the best I've ever had. There a white wine base and it's surprisingly light for a pot pie but very flavourful. Friends in the neighbourhood have made it a point to broadcast via text when they see he's got pies so we can get some. They usually sell out by about 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
