Philadelphia in Top 101 List?

Yahoo posted a list of America's Top 20 (101) Restaurants it was noted that it is the 2nd annual from this source. Which is not exactly a ring endorsement for the credibility of same: however we do love lists. The methodology is not discussed in detail however their approach, in a topic as broad and subjective as food, is presented. They acknowledge a mix of casual and fine dining and everything in between and note the recent reviews in the NY Times food section of many casual restaurants.

There are a few Philadelphia restaurants on the list including Zahav, Verti and Le Bec Fin. Well there goes a bit of credibility for their listing. LaBan has been frequently challenged when issuing a Philly Best List which presented all types of establishments compiled into his Best of List. Unless specifically designating restaurants by type and class the approach of mixing is used by most evaluators.

You may find the focus on NYC and California restaurants obvious and a bit exclusionary. I suspect you may find the list both informative and perhaps not representative of your tastes.

    2. Interesting list, Vetri is only one ranking ahead of Katz's Deli in NYC....

And Katz's is ahead of Zahav... I'd take the lamb over the pastrami any day.

        But LBF at #34?

Is anything great at Katz's besides the pastrami? If it is, I haven't had it.

It's difficult to interpret a list that ranks Vetri just a notch better than Katz's. Katz's pastrami is good, but I wouldn't put them on any nationwide "best-of" list, unless we're just talking about delis. I ate at Osteria Morini a couple months ago. It was average by nyc standards. I also had brunch at The Dutch recently and it didn't blow me away, but it was just brunch. I would put Vetri ahead of both Marea and Babbo. All three places are great though.

        3. Just counted through, and l have hit 61 of them. As would seem to be the case, l would rank the ones l have been to far differently if l were to make the list. Having $ 10 places higher than $ 400 places may seem odd but l can see how it is true. OTOH l have on my short list 4 places mentioned. Thought having Pok-Pok at # 12 was a bold move on the lister's part.
