Best DISH in OC / IE

  • 7

Let's face it: people eat dishes, not restaurants. I've seen a bunch of "best dish in LA" threads, but just moved to Corona (from W.LA) and there's gotta be a lot of good eats along the 91/241 hwy east and west (Orange County, Corona, Riverside)

What's your fav dish? The one that keeps you awake at night.

  1. I don't have a single favorite dish, but i have a few favorites in several categories that will draw me back to a restaurant.

Best single bite of sushi - Toro (when available) at San Sho Go on Balboa
    Best burger - Perter's Gourmade
Favorite Mexican - (I will get creamed over this) Carne Asada Tacos and a high end Margarita at Javier's
Best Breakfast - Pretty much anything at Break of Dawn

If I had to pick just one of these as the best single dish, it would be the toro at San Shi Go, when they are able to find an extraordinary cut. The only thing I have eaten that would best this would be some excellent foie gras with quince jelly (it sounded odd to me at first) I had at a 2* restaurant in the French Alps while on a ski trip.

Maybe I should have clarified: best dish at each restaurant. Like your favorite steak, fav mexican, fav sushi... exactly how you answered :)

I'm a noob at OC/IE having just moved here, but gotta add:

Breakfast: banana pecan pancakes @ Silver Dollar Pancake House

I'd kill for a Langer's #19 out here. At least OC has a couple of my old LA favorites:
      Criolla Empanada @ Empanada's Place,
Chicken Curry Katsu (spicy) @ Curry House

    2. Just found this thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/459003, which is similar, yet old and not very complete. Figured it makes sense to add that list here.

On my 'to do' list are to try dishes at:
      Mas' Islamic Restaurant
Gen Korean BBQ and Yakitori Bar
      Kentro Greek Kitchen
      Slater's 50/50
      Luna Modern Mexican Kitchen
      Habana
      The Red Pot
      Agora Churrascaria

Any comments on great dishes at these places or better alternatives?

Really any of the lamb dishes at Mas are terrific--and make sure to get their sesame bread (I like it thin, with green onions).

El Puerco Primo and Mojitos at Habana.

We really liked the mosaka at Kentro.

          2. TAPS has a Corona location. I go to their Brea location and love almost everything on their menu. My favorite is their Sunday Champagne Brunch. Ceviche, carved turkey and prime rib, amazing cheeses and meats, bananas Foster...everything is so good and service is great, too.
