Nice bar with good food
Hello, My husband and I live in New Orleans and are visiting NYC for a long weekend March 17-21. We get in to the city at around 8 or so Sat. night and will be looking for a late dinner. I was thinking of a nice bar with tasty food. We want to avoid any St. Pats day crowds (I realize I may be optimistic in this regard). We are saying near Hells Kitchen, but are open to going elsewhere for a good place. Price not a huge issue (it's our anniversary), more interested in quality. I had heard good things about Cafe Boulud, for instance. Any other suggestions?

Many NYC restaurants take reservations as late as 11PM on the weekends. There might still be time to secure a reservation somewhere nice for, say, 10:00 or so (giving you a little time to settle in before rushing out to dinner) - I'm seeing open tables available at Ai Fiori, Lincoln, Nougatine, The Modern (Bar Room and DIning Room)... and some really late ones (11PM) at Jean Georges & Marea, all in the Midtown West area so not too far from your hotel - some in walking distance, even. All in the same general price range as Cafe Boulud, a couple of them a little higher. Many other places in other parts of town have openings as well.
You'd be better off locking down a rez somewhere, though. Saturday night + NYC... you could easily spend an hour just walking around looking for a place with two empty seats if you're going to wing it.
