I'm not sure san diego is THE place for Greek cuisine, but maybe compared to where you're coming from?
I've been to Georgia's on Rosecrans near the Sports Arena. It was good, but it didn't knock my socks off.
I've heard good things about Athens market downtown. Anyone with firsthand experience want to chime in?

you'll be close enough to walk to this one: Athens Market on West F Street (just west of Horton Plaza). it beats Greek Islands without a doubt. I'm including a link.

Zorba's on Broadway in chula vista has a greek buffet for lunch and dinner that is very reasonable. They have belly dancers some nights also. The food is more like home cooking and is reasonably good but not gourmet faire.

I have to say, after falling in love with Greek food while in Greece last Summer, that Cafe Athena in Pacific Beach is the BEST Greek food I've had in San Diego... they fulfill my saganaki fetish without a doubt. Very resonable prices, friendly people, and I think I saw a "voted best Greek in San Diego 2001" or something on their wall.

Umm, if you don't know what Saganaki is, get it! I am a cheese lunatic in the first place, but flaming it at the table just completes the experience.

Opa!
