dinner with a friend, downtown, not too expensive

suggestion for dinner with a friend downtown (14th street or below), not too pricey, but something not run of the mill?

How about sharing a pastrami on rye, knish and Dr Brown's soda @ Katz's? The sammiches are built for two!

Too broad a question. In order to receive help of any relevance, please provide more details.

When will this be? (some place book up fast)
What do you want to spend? Remember to include tax and tip. Is this amount with or without drinks?
      What cuisines do you like/dislike?

Suggestions without knowing any of the above:
      The Dutch
      Saxon and Parole
      Terroir Tribeca
      Alta
