Best Mussels Southside

AndOne Mar 5, 2012 09:13 AM

My daughter and I are visting Duquesne this weekend. She loves mussels. We visited Pitt last year and stopped at the Sharper Edge and she was in mussel heaven. We're tring Southside this time. Any recommendations for a good place in Southside for mussels?

Dish has a nice version of cozze al vapore as an app and 17th St. Cafe had mussels casino on the menu not too long ago . I'd check if they're on the menu currently.

If you haven't been yet, the local mussels & frites champion is Point Brugge in Point Breeze. That's mussel heaven, IMO. I'd give Paris 66's version a vote for 2nd place.

Panini nailed it for the S.S. Dish and 17th St are my favorites in that area.

I'll second Panini Guy's mention of Point Brugge, where you can get your mussels (i) Thai, (ii) white wine/shallots/cream, or (iii) Provencal. Mussel (and frites) heaven.

Very few things I crave. Point/Park Bruges mussels in White wine/beurre blanc... I could eat it 3-4 days a week :)

We ended up going to Fat Head's Saloon. We got the mussels there. They were just OK but the portion size was small. I wouldn't order them again.

I agree, Fatheads is great at what they do best, which is good sandwiches and a nice beer selection. I didn't even know they served mussels.

Drive the 15 minutes to Point Breeze and have dinner at Point Brugge. I dream of the red curry mussels.
