Upscale Pre-Theatre Meal for a Sunday
I am coming down to NYC in a couple of weeks and would like to take my fiance to an upscale pre-theatre meal somewhere close to the theatre district (don't mind taking a cab).
I am looking for something like a steak house or a french restaurant.
Many fine dining establishments are closed Sundays.
You'd probably also have to do a prix fixe at around 5:30pm in order to make your curtain time (I'd definitely try for 5:30pm rather than 6pm).
When reserving, confirming your reservation, and also when arriving I'd make sure to mention that you have a 7:30pm curtain time.
It also depends a lot on where the theatre is. Where is your show--cross streets of the theatre? Personally, I wouldn't want to risk not being able to find a cab, and being late, so I'd dine within walking distance.
If you're willing to forgo some of the "upscale"-ness:
Bar Room at the Modern
65 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022
72 West 36th St., New York, NY 10018
9 West 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019
15 W 56th St, New York, NY 10019
In my mind, there's nothing upscale about a rushed 6pm dinner in order to make a 7:30 curtain, no matter what the restaurant. How about taking your fiance to a nice afternoon tea, and then do a post-theater fancy dinner?!?! Hop in a cab after the show, and you can go anywhere!
Del Posto opens at 4:30 pm on Sundays. It's a quick cab ride to the theater district.
For French, try La Silhouette or Boulud Sud, both of which which open at 5:00 pm.
For steak, Porter House at the Time Warner Center opens at 3:00 pm on Sundays.
