Zacatecas Tacos and Tequila
"Created by James Beard Award winner, Mark Kiffin, Zacatecas Tacos and Tequila offers authentic Mexican cuisine and an extensive Tequila menu".
Had dinner there last night and the place was packed! We walked in around 7 and were lucky to score some seats at the bar after a 10 minute wait. Table wait without reservations would have run 45 minutes or so for 3.
Really enjoyed the food at what was Bumblebee's.
We started with sangria [nice red and they add the fruit just before serving so it isn't a ghastly purple], a beer and a margarita. All nicely done.
We shared an order of:
Zacatecas Totopos
Fire Roasted Guajillo and Tomatillo-Avocado Salsas
with Hand Made Guacamole {EXCELLENT!]
I had:
Carne Asada Tacos
Grilled Marinated Rib Eye Steak
Fire Roasted Guajillo Salsa, Queso Fresco, Cilantro
And the others had:
Slow Cooked Pork Ribs
Tamarind Recado-Chipotle Sauce
Sweet Potato Fries, Serrano Slaw [slaw was a bit dry and bland]
Dessert was a dense and bit heavy, but very enjoyable Tres Leche cake; enough to share with 2 and even 3.
They are participating in NM Restaurant week, but no reservations. A nice prix fixe menu for $29, but I am guessing it is going to be REALLY packed.
Overall, a great meal and a great addition to the ABQ - Nob Hill Food scene.

We went for lunch. Not too busy and excellent service. Cod tacos were supreme as was the carne asada taco, salsas, guac. So fresh and just the right amount of heat. I asked for a prickly pear margarita and the barman came over to our table and said it will be on the menu in a few days. Instead I had a margarita with St. Germain and muddled cukes and one of the tequilas. Superb. Posted it on facebook with a photo and had several responses. It's very clean and cleaned up from the chaotic decor from the last place. This will definitely be our new go-to at Nob Hill.

Sounds kind of "authentic." Imagine that. We'll try it for lunch and hope it's not too packed. Bumblebees had a horrible failure there but I think that had more to do with their business practices. Great location, award winning, experienced chef, authentic Mexican cuisine and huge tequila selection. How can that not work in Albuquerque?
