Kahiltna Gold Birch Syrup

Have you ever tried this stuff?

I got a bottle for Christmas and sort of just let it sit there. Almost forgotten.

Well, today for dinner I had it on some ice cream just to see what it was like. What a wonderful surprise. A deep, rich flavor that's sort of a blend between molasses, cola, and spearmint.

  1. Sounds like it would be great in a glass of seltzer water as a "birch soda."

    1. As an odd syrup guy, such as Shagbark from Indiana, thank you for putting this on the forum. l shall order it and see how it is.

Really, l tend to like 'B' grade maple more than 'A' grade. Would that mentality carryover to the birch syrup ?

Sorry. I really don't know enough about birch syrup to compare it to A or B grade maples.

      1. Still thinking about this syrup. How about putting a bit in with some cheap bourbon as an interesting cocktail?

It's so good, I'm tempted to just pour it in a shot glass and enjoy it "neat".

        2. I wonder if this is the base for birch beer, a soft drink I grew up with in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I've only seen the finished soda, not any syrup.

          1. Y'know, I've been tempted to try this stuff for YEARS. As I recall, though, there are a number of other Alaskan vendors, including one who carries a lot of other unusual syrups (including pine needle) as well.
