Is there a CH Cooking or Eating out group in LA?
Hi all,
I'll be moving to LA in a short bit after being gone for the last 6 yrs. My fam isn't able to join me for at least a year, sadly. It would be great to meet some people with shared interests : ) in the meantime.
I'm game for either a cooking/dinner group or an eating out group. I'm a fairly adventurous eater (all cuisines, no allergies), except for I don't really do lots of offal and such. Liver and foie is ok. Not a big drinker.
I did a quite quick search and nothing came up - sorry if it is out there and I missed it.
Re location, anything in the more central part of LA is great. Heading deep into the valleys or OC is probably too far. And re eating out budget, looking more for hole in the wall or casual than fine dining locales.
Hoping to meet some LA CHs soon!

Hi sasha1. If you have not already, you may want to take a look at this thread, that is sticky-ed at the top of this board:

Welcome to LA!
There used to a group called SCARF that unfortunately has fallen victim to too many busy schedules. But there is a more formal meet up group that might suit you called Pleasure Palate...

Another great event if you love cooking is the the Club Culinaire picnic. Much more casual than the standard food festival and you'll meet a lot of like minded foodies and hobby chefs.

re: Dommy
OMG pleasure palate has 1000 members! I was thinking a group with 10 or 15. More manageable, particularly if the event is cooking rather than dining out. Also, even if everyone doesn't show all the time (and I'm sure they don't), it is much easier to get to know the folks in a small group, no?
Is there anything small out there? Anyone?

re: Dommy
I know - I lived in LA for a decade before leaving 6 years ago. But I also know there are small groups out there, hanging out, cooking dinner at each others houses or meeting up for a plate of something yummy at new place of the week. I guess if no one talks, or no one is looking to add to their group, I won't find them. Might have to start my own!

re: Servorg
Were there two SCARFs? This is the address I have:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCARF-S...
It is incredibly inactive.
BTW, if anyone knows how to get me logged onto my account as SilverlakeGirl, please contact me at mtbrucker at yahoo.com. Help from Chowhound as been close to non-existant. But I would like to get me saved links.

re: SilverlakeGirlToo
Both are links to the same thing. and truth be told the SCARF Board has not had traffic for a while, though it still works. Some folks have moved on and some have connected through other means [aka Facebook Google+ etc]. It seems that since Jim Leff sold Chowhound there was less of personal connection to the site. In the early days, we would get together for potlucks to fundraise for the site which was always seeming to be on the brink of financial peril. Since that's no longer the case, the motivation is no longer there to make such an effort.
