Who has eaten at this ridiculously cheap, super-friendly, divey little home cooking place near the south end of the capital on Brazos they call Messhall cafe ???
I went there yesterday and got a cheese burger and fries and water for 4.50 or something silly cheap. They have a little line of home made home cooked grub you can eat and then they'll griddle you up a sysco burger and fries along with a bunch of other stuff. yep, they'll whip up some tater tots too. Except for the comfort foods in hot trays that change each day, everything else is made to order. I discovered this place searching for places that serve catfish - they do on Fridays but I've not hit that up yet. Anyone else intrigued by this tiny little joint downtown? Here's a menu link: http://www.messhallcafe.com/messhall/.... Seriously, a 32 oz fountain soda is 60 cents. hilarious. You can get biscuit and gravy breakfast for like a buck.
Not a frill in sight !!! And It's a little hard to find and the signage is small . . essentially you go north on brazos south of the capital and it's on your right before you hit the capital in the basement of a city building. There's a few tables out front that provide a couple frills, but down in the cafe itself it's nicely divey.
