Seeking Parsley Root

jns7 Mar 1, 2012 08:46 AM

Over the next few weeks, if you see parsley root for sale anywhere in Manhattan, please let me know. It's an ingredient in my departed grandmother's chicken soup, but it's no longer easily found. Thanks!

Paffenroth Gardens at the Union Square Greenmarket on Saturdays usually has it. They typically have a huge variety of root vegetables.

Paffenroth reported that Irene resulted in a small harvest and they've run out. So I'm still seeking.

I've also found it at both the Tribeca and the 14th Street Whole Foods upon occasion. They don't always have it. I also need it for chicken soup, but both Mom and Grandma used to tie up a bunch of parsley in cheesecloth if they couldn't find a parsley root. FWIW

Fairway Harlem has had it, along with many other root vegetables.
