Went to the newly remodeled Water Grill this weekend and had a wonderful meal. Beautiful new raw bar. We started with their very impressive grand iced fish platter that had oysters, clams, PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOP, WILD JUMBO PACIFIC SHRIMP ,ENSENADA BLACK MUSSELS, 1/2 LB HARD SHELL AMERICAN LOBSTER and periwinkles. We also had the Chilean Sea Bass, Cioppino and my son had a 2 1/2 pound Maine Lobster. We ended the night with their salted carmel bread pudding. A great meal with great service. Highly Recommended. Still one of the best seafood restaurants in LA.

My opinion: The food at Water Grill used to be great and definitely Michelin-star-worthy. Now it's good but not Michelin-star-worthy. The menu is completely revamped. The dishes are simpler in concept and plated more haphazardly. While I liked all the old Water Grill dishes, I've disliked some of the new ones. Most notably, I thought the fish and chips was way off the mark. A thick, crispy batter completely overwhelmed the fish; the chips were mushy.
I think Water Grill has become less focused on the food and more focused on a lively atmosphere and cheaper menu options. Still, I'd say Water Grill is in the triumvirate of best restaurants in downtown LA, along with Drago Centro and Patina.
