Went to the newly remodeled Water Grill this weekend and had a wonderful meal. Beautiful new raw bar. We started with their very impressive grand iced fish platter that had oysters, clams, PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOP, WILD JUMBO PACIFIC SHRIMP ,ENSENADA BLACK MUSSELS, 1/2 LB HARD SHELL AMERICAN LOBSTER and periwinkles. We also had the Chilean Sea Bass, Cioppino and my son had a 2 1/2 pound Maine Lobster. We ended the night with their salted carmel bread pudding. A great meal with great service. Highly Recommended. Still one of the best seafood restaurants in LA.

My opinion: The food at Water Grill used to be great and definitely Michelin-star-worthy. Now it's good but not Michelin-star-worthy. The menu is completely revamped. The dishes are simpler in concept and plated more haphazardly. While I liked all the old Water Grill dishes, I've disliked some of the new ones. Most notably, I thought the fish and chips was way off the mark. A thick, crispy batter completely overwhelmed the fish; the chips were mushy.

I think Water Grill has become less focused on the food and more focused on a lively atmosphere and cheaper menu options. Still, I'd say Water Grill is in the triumvirate of best restaurants in downtown LA, along with Drago Centro and Patina.

i was wondering if there have been any updates? i have a reservation there coming up. wanted to make sure it's still worth doing. thinking of doing a seafood tower / oysters -- stuff like that, not necessarily ordering a piece of fish but rather appetizers and a tower.

Food is about the same, although the additions to the raw bar and the daily selections of whole fish are welcomed additions, and overdue, in my opinion.

The new dining room and layout seems noisier -- you can definitely hear the din in a more pronounced manner.
