real mirin

Does anyone know where to buy Takara mirin or Toh-Hi Akasake mirin in the "greater Lexington, MA" area??
The supermarket "aji mirin" is NOT the real thing

In your area, I'm guessing H-Mart would be easiest

Whole Foods carries Eden, which is pretty good. No added cornstarch or sugar, but it does have added salt.

I just looked for Takara in the area and couldn't find it anywhere. One of the buyers at Marty's looked into it for me and told me according to his distributors no-one is bringing in Takara or any brand of hon-Mirin to Massachusetts.

That said, Cambridge Wine & Spirits in Fresh Pond carries Kikkoman Manju Mirin , which is not the same as their dreadful aji-mirin. Not sure if the Manju Mirin has sweeteners, but it doesn't have salt and does have a higher alcohol content than most supermarket mirins.

Miso Market in Porter Sq., Cambridge has Mitoku mirin, which is very good.

I heartily second Mitoku. Failing that I go to Eden from WFM.

Have you tried Ebisuya Market in Medford?
