Hoosier classics in James Dean's Hometown
Classic down home small town Hoosier cooking survives and thrives in this modest Fairmount diner just down the road from the farm where James Dean grew up. In fact his closest relatives still eat here all the time. I had an outstanding version of that archetypal double carb dish: beef and homemade noodles over mashed potatoes. Other excellent foods include: butter beans, fried apples, pork tenderloin, salmon cakes, pies. This is middle American victuals at its best. While in town be sure to visit the fascinating James Dean Gallery, a loving shrine to the brief life of the talented actor. Main Street also has several interesting antique shops and a first rate vinyl record store.
