Best Restaurants For Artichokes in Rome
Basically trying to find out which restaurants serve the best artichokes in Rome. alla Giudea or all Romana work.

I'll agree with all of Maureen's advice, but also add Pompiere to the list. For some reason everyone always forgets about this wonderful restaurant in the Ghetto.
And have to add that I love Gigetto. The pastas are outstanding, and the artichokes the best in Rome. -

Yes, March is prime time for artichokes. For classic carciofi alla giudia, go to Piperno, Giggetto (which I don't normally care for), or Sora Margherita (which I also don't otherwise like, but it's cheap and popular), in descending order of elegance and non-artichoke gastronomic interest -- all in the Ghetto. Or else go to Paris (nothing to do with France) in Trastevere, where the owners worked for years at Piperno before opening their own place 25-ish years ago. It used to be that you had to go to the Ghetto to even find them, and now they are made all over the place, but these are the classics.
As for carciofi alla romana, any decent Roman trattoria or traditional-style restaurant should be able to produce a decent one. I always order them at Checchino, Felice, and Nerone, but that's just because those are places I go, and I like their artichokes. Actually, Felice's are really, really good.
What most people don't realize is that the carciofi romaneschi (globe artichokes just coming into season) are excellent raw. You dip slices or wedges in olive oil and just eat them or combine them with some other important ingredient in a salad, but we usually do this at home, since they have to be sliced and eaten immediately, something you will get only at a high end restaurant.
