Looking for a restaurant with great whole crabs

  • 6

I don't want crab cakes or lump meat in a salad.

I want blue, stone, alaskan......

Any price point is fine, I just want crabs!
Yes, I know how that sounds. ;)

Thanks for any and all suggestions

EDIT: I'm primarily looking for traditional steamed with drawn butter and would rather avoid mass chains but any and all crabs are welcome.

  1. Nee House is kind of hit and miss, but they have tanks with live crabs and the Kowloon-style crab is pretty fabulous... fried up with tons of garlic and chiles.

Theirs sounds great. I will put them on my list, thanks!

    2. C-Fu Gourmet in Chandler -- I've had live crabs there -- cooked, of course.

      1. The Salt Cellar and Bluewater Grill (formerly the Fish Market) both do king crab legs as an entree. Pappadeaux has fried soft shells as well as king crab legs as an entree. Durant's sometimes has Florida Stone crab, but last time I was there, it was pricey ($8 per claw). Wildfish has lots of seafood, but it's been a couple years since I've been there and can't remember if they have crab in a non cake form. Bluewater and Pappadeaux (and maybe Wildfish) are technically chains, but I find them perfectly acceptable and well run. If you're willing to venture away from steamed with butter, I had some fantastic live dungeness that was lightly coated, flash fried, and then tossed with salt, pepper, and chilis at Great Wall a couple weeks ago. They will also do it sauced with ginger and green onion, among other methods.

        1. If you have the freezer space this may be a cheaper option for you, is to get a box of Alaskan King Crab wholesale (20lb box)

My friend and I split a box of crab Alskan King Crab Legs, they are cooked and flash froze on the boat so they are very easy to prepare one of several different ways and you will get alot more bang for your buck

we generally boil some water toss a bit of sugar in the water and in 10-15 min they are done make some garlic butter and you are all set

new meaning to all you can eat crab legs :)

10 lbs is about 3 meals for two people if you are doing an "all you can eat" style of crab and not having anything else with them other than maybe some rolls etc

          1. While not a "restaurant" as such the "Super L Ranch Market" is a oriental grocery that will happily serve you up live or steamed blue crabs along with most about anything else your seafood heard desires
