The Park's Finest BBQ in Filipino Town
The Park's Finest BBQ previously a catering only affair has a brick and mortar place now in Filipino town. Hours are still very limited previously only open Friday evenings. This past Sunday 2/19 was their first time open on Sunday. For now, only hours open will be Friday evening and Sunday lunch and dinner.
I was fortunate enough to hear of a Flash Theatre LA performance in front of the restaurant to coincide with the first Sunday service. After the performance, a group of us sat down to dinner.
We tried a variety of food. The coconut beef, chicken, short rib, pork ribs, tri tip, grilled vegetables and corn bread bibingka. For those not familiar with Park's, they take american style bbq meat techniques and use Filipino/Asian influenced spices.
The coconut beef and corn bread bibingka are probably the most distinctive and popular items looking at the other tables. The beef is stewed tender with an adoboish sauce that just cries out to have some white rice paired with it. It was different from any other Filipino dish I've had but yet somehow hit all the comfort notes of my Filipino reared palate. The cornbread was cornbread but had the bibingka rice flour/coconut taste undertone.
Tri-tip was rare and tender with a tasty rub. The beef short rib was cut the long way and each serving is a giant rib, meat was also tender but with chew and not falling apart with a slightly smokiness. Pork ribs were also tasty with a similar treatment and texture as the short rib. The chicken was more of a grilled chicken. The dark meat was juicy but I thought the white meat was on the dry side. The bbq sauce was in squeeze bottles at every table. I thought the sauce was more like a chutney, fruity sweet and chunky with hints of spices possibly cardamon?
Prices were extremely fair for large portions. The beef and pork dishes were in the $10-11 range and the chicken at $8 for four pieces. The cornbread bibingka was three pieces for $2. Grilled Veggies $3. Website doesn't have the menu up yet.
Service was very friendly and efficient. With it being only open part time combined with traditional Filipino warmth and hospitality, it felt like being in a relatives house. Everyone checking on you wanting to make sure the food was good and you were okay.
I hope they do well enough to expand to more hours. It's a great combination of tasty food priced very reasonably for the portions and wonderful service.

it's been a couple years since i ate their bbq at an event, and i still remember what it tasted like. i can't wait to check out their restaurant!
Update on their hours per their latest website posting.
"We are now open Fridays 6-10PM, Sundays Noon-7PM, and Tuesdays 11AM-3PM. We’ll add more days as we stack more chips."
