Moko Japanese -- Southie

Fort Point Feb 26, 2012 11:31 AM

Moko Japanese Cuisine in the old Terri's place on East Broadwa has opened. Tried it for lunch today and it was very good. Tried the sushi appetizer (6 pieces; chefs choice - $9.95) and from the Korean side the Chapchae (stir fried clear noodles and vegetables with chicken -- $13.95). Both dishes were very good to excellent. The interior has been completely redone and there are even tablecloths. The service was friendly but the kitchen timing was a little off. No liquor served yet. Will definitely try again.

As I understand it, if they've applied for and are awaiting approval on a license (I'm guessing beer/wine here), you can BYOB. Once the board makes its decision, BYOB becomes illegal.

Does that rule apply to boston proper as well, or only south boston? I'm thinking Irasshai in chinatown, who say they are awaiting approval of their license application by the state

I imagine that it applies equally to all Boston neighborhoods. All restaurant liquor licenses in Boston are approved by the City of Boston Licensing Board, including in Chinatown and Southie. Historically, board members are appointed by the governor. Governor Patrick proposed legislation last year to transfer that power to the mayor: does anyone know if that passed?

There is a good size but unstocked bar in the restaurant so I'm sure they are just waiting for their liscense.
