Looking for great fish dishes
Not Chinese and preferably not whole fish (okay mention it still, if its amazing ill put it on the list). will often be dining alone, don't mind sitting at a bar. atmosphere unimportant as I just want to sample a bunch of good fish dishes in Toronto.
I do like an Asian twist, especially Japanese, but not necessary.
I say no Chinese only because I already eat a lot of Chinese.
Thanks

Zee Grill and Starfish are my go-tos for finfish. If you also like shellfish, the flown-in-from-the-Maritimes lobster is amazing at Starfish, and they will let customers share lobsters, which I thought was a nice touch.
For shellfish, I enjoy the grilled octopus and grilled calamari at Volos. I've liked every shellfish dish I've ever tried at Scaramouche. I haven't ordered finfish at Scaramouche, but I would expect it to be very good. I also like the Wednesday night crabcake special at Nota Bene, where I have also enjoyed finfish over the last year.
If you like shellfish served cold, I recommend the Vuelve a la Vida ceviche at Milagro, made with octopus, crab and shrimp. I couldn't detect much crab, but even if it's mostly octopus and shrimp, I still like it a lot. It's my favourite dish on their menu.
Please report back, to let us know where you go and what you order.
