There used to be a little Italian place in Clovis, not that dark brick chain that's all over the city, but in Old Town Clovis. I'm blanking on the name, it was 10 years ago, but it was in a newer brick building. Anyway, it was run by two guys who had just moved to the US, all very fresh food, not heavy or gluey. Very, very good.
I used to reccomend the bakery in the Fig Garden village, but when I went there last Xmas it had changed and was no longer worth the trip.
There is a good bagle place in the Tower District, one block up from the BankAmerica, I believe. Best egg bagles I ever had.
