Promising start to a new restaurant at the back of beyond

Just had lunch at the Oyster Cracker Cafe in Bivalve, NJ. Located on the docks along the Maurice River where oyster boats have been bringing home oysters for a century or more, this cafe is a very small, but a pleasant refuge in a wasteland for foodies. The menu does not have any meat dishes listed, as the organization that runs it with volunteer labor is vegetarian, but includes seafood that is locally harvested, such as the crab in the delicious seafood lasagne, and the oysters in the oyster stew, both of which my partner had and he raved about them. I had the lentil soup, flavored with a hint of clove, and not quite hot enough, and the Popeye salad, a spinach salad made with baby spinach, cranberries, goat cheese and pecans and a slightly sweet balsamic vinaigrette. Served with home made sourdough bread, it was a satisfying and tasty lunch. My friend had chocolate mousse for dessert which he also raved about. All in all, we were happily fed but it took some time, as we arrived at 11:30 and were not done until 12:30. A delicious, leisurely lunch: not a bad thing. This just opened a couple weeks ago, and, given the delicious food, once they get the service sped up a bit, this will be a 5 star place for lunch. It is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for lunch.

    Um... seafood is not vegetarian, neither is goat cheese.

      but includes seafood that is locally harvested....

      Hence the 'but'. Goat cheese is vegetarian, it is not vegan.
