Fairway in Plainview has canned fava beans, not Progresso brand, they're Westbrae Organic, so in the rear half of the store, probably. The new layout is traditional groceries up front, specialty and organic in the rear.
Except for when they're not. :-)

Went to Plainview 's Fairway and yes they did have Westbrae fava beans and on sale for just .99.and much much more stuff as sale items. Some of the products were cheaper than the other supermarket's Drove by Nazar and they appeared to be closed. Will call them first .Anyway THANKS

re: mcf
Yes I agree. I still can't get over the variety of products on sale that are usually marked up in other stores.Westbrae, Bob's Red Mill ,Barrilla as well as great ground- in -store (when your waited on) coffee and the cheese's well I regret I didn't buy more. Not too far from that store and also in Plainview is the incredibly inexpensive Johns Farms Excellent fish and if you carefully scan the shelves imported products such as Sicilian sardines in salt ,Arborio rici I bought veal kidneys and would have bought cockles fresh from the monger but didn't want to wait on the line .http://johnsfarms.com/ always crowded

re: scunge
BTW, I'm not a bread eater, but emarcus, who was first to reply to you, is a food writer who's said that Fairway's bakery makes some excellent breads. The few times I've tried a cake or pie from there, OTOH... not so much. But they seem to have some really popular whole grain health bread there.

re: scunge
I love roquefort, but I have it on high fiber Wasa or Ryvita. Or salad, or atop a good steak on occasion. If you are into olive oils, this particular one is very spicy and delicious... there's usually some out at the tasting bar. http://www.fairwaymarket.com/fairway-... Back to favas, I've never cooked with them, but Fairway has fresh ones in season, and I plan to try to learn to use them this year.

re: mcf
Affirmative. Don't know about their cakes and pies, but between the breads that they make on the premises and the ones that they bring in (Bread Alone, Eli's, etc.) I think they're one of best bread sources on LI. I've also had no better bagels on LI than Fairway's mini bagels.

re: scunge
According to this, Chinatown: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/16/din... And a few other places in NYC. So maybe the Asian markets on LI or in Flushing?

re: emarcus
I am so hooked on Eli's health loaf, luckily I can get it at Best Yet for $3.50 on sale, or $3.95 normally.
I haven't been impressed with much of the bakery dept at Fairway, although I love the mini bagels just because they're so tiny. Because when I'm there, I've gotta stock up on lox, that's my first stop.
