Recommendations in Filipinotown?

  • 5

All,

My wife and I will be attending a play at a little theater on Beverly near the corner of Alvarado this Saturday evening. We'll be getting out at about 9:30 and will be ready to eat.

Since the play is about Buddha, we're thinking something Indian, but any Asian cuisine will do. One would imagine Filipinotown would have a lot of Filipino restaurants, but I don't think it's really as much of Filipino enclave as it used to be many moons ago, regardless of its title.

We don't want to spend a fortune. We'd like to get out about $60 for the meal including maybe some wine or beer.

Any suggestions?

  1. There aren't many options for "fine" dining in that area. You would have to go to Downtown for that but if you are looking for a decent sit-down Filipino restaurant in that area, I would look into Salakot http://www.salakotsizzleandgrill.com/.... You might go a little over $60 if you are looking to add drinks but not much more than $60.

    1. Filipino restaurants are not too popular in that neighborhood, despite the name. I would recommend any place in Echo Park such as Red Hill, Mohawk Bend, Allston Yacht Club or the Park, or Downtown like the Redwood, Blue Cow or Baco Mercat.

Thank you. I will check those out.

      2. Lot's of Koreantown options and Thaitown options nearby.

You're right, Bob. And we have to travel through Koreatown to get back home. Good call. It's been while since I've had Korean.
