Mitzi's On College Closing

Saw a sign in the window on my was to the bus stop saying that their last day will be the 27th. Anyone have any info?

I'm just scared that I'll never get a seat for brunch again in that neighbourhood! It was Mitz'is and Hadley's really and with Hadley's going to be on that You Gotta Eat here show I'll never get a seat! Maybe some of the other restos will start to up their game a little?

Fingers crossed Hadley's expands! Would love their fried chicken to be a permanent menu item!!

I walk past The Sister a few times a week and it definitely looks slower than it has in the past. When I lived on Callender a year back it was always busy. Not so much anymore it appears.

The Sister (Mitzi's Sister) hasn't been busy for a long time now. It's been maybe 2 years since I've seen regular line ups there for brunch Being full this past weekend was rare for sure.

Brunch is a whole other beast in that neighborhood.

Mitzi's sister's customers (both sunday and throughout the week) have migrated to Mezzrows (better food but smaller menu, more personal service). More competition in the area for brunch is aimed squarely to dethrone Mitizi's Sister - Cowbell, Parts & Labour, Keriwa and the very awful Cardinal Rule plus old standbys like the original Mitizi's and Easy. Plus there is the whole renaissance happening on Roncesvalles that impact our little west, west, queen west strip.

Agreed on Cardinal and wonder how a person gets full at Keriwa's brunch? The food was top notch but both of our plates had small portions!

That's true. The Westerly, The Ace, Barque and another place I can never remember the name of that just opened, Hoppin Johns?, do a brisk brunch business. It works out well for me. We just bought a place at Ronces and Howard Park after living on Callender for years. It wasn't too long ago you would have to walk from ronces to queen west for brunch.

Maybe they could buy Mitzi's it's a bigger space. lol.

Actually not a bad idea. Its bigger but not crazy. They would fill the place and create a cool patio vide. Then some other cool up and coming spot could take their old space....and the beat goes on. Now I NEED some Hadleys fried chicken!!!!!

Leslie sold 1/2 her interest in 'the sister' on queen west as it is now called and will be selling the remaining interest later this year.

I thought she sold more than that. I just find it odd she wouldn't want one more busy season. If this weather keeps up it'll be patio weather soon, which really is the only reason to go to that location IMHO.

the sister isn't completely transitioned yet, she is still the boh, the partner is the foh. as i said that is changing, but not completed.

I have been to The Sister twice in the past two weeks when it was packed!

i wonder what the occasion was...i've been a half dozen times since the change and it has been dead-as it is everyday when i walk by, i've talked to tracey (bartender) and she agrees that it is much slower than it used to be.

Brunch last weekend and there was no occassion, just filled tables. I hadn't seen it that busy for quite a while. We had to sit by the stage. Then 2 weeks previous for dinner where again every table was taken and turning over.

The Sister was packed for brunch again today, although no line ups. Love those pancakes!

Meanwhile, is it true that the Drake got its hands on the now defunct Mitzi's???

Love the other locations but this one will be no loss for me!
