Red Eye Grill does a wonderful job and has great private space. For more casual Blue Smoke Is good option

In order to receive help of any relevance, please provide more details.

      When will this be?
      What day of the week?
What do you want to spend? "Arm and a leg" is subjective. Remember to include tax and tip. Is this amount with or without drinks?
What cuisines will the group like/dislike?
      What areas of Manhattan?
What vibe are you looking for? Ambience?

Saturday Night near the end of March
$100 a head including drinks, tax and gratuity
French or New American a yes
        Italian a no
Anywhere in Manhattan, but needs to have a good bar scene close by for after party

The 2nd floor of BLT fish has a great private room. Worth looking into.

I honestly think that $100 a head for drinks, passed hor d'ouevres, a sit-down meal, tax and gratuity for a party of 40 is not possible in Manhattan for a Saturday night, or maybe any night anywhere in NYC. Hope I'm wrong! A real challenge for Chowhounders.

I had 3 hours open bar and passed apps which were 7 different ones and plenty of food for $100 per head at BLT Fish. Sit down dinner on top of that was not necessary and would have added an additional $50 per person

Did they charge you tax and gratuity on top of the $100 per head, or was tax and gratuity included in the $100 pp?
