St. Louis Thurs PM and Sun. PM

Starting again. We will be in St. Louis Thurs PM and Sun. PM. Looking for suggestions of places to stay and dine. No chain dining please. We are not gamblers and much of what I have seen for lodging and dining seems geared to that activity. Thanks.

I usually end up over by the 270 area of Maryland Heights when I make it back to the STL area. Partly because m y sister and niece and nephew and their families all live over near there and also because of a large number of good but not too expensive hotels with easy parking. We have eaten so many different places over in the area, and it has been a while since I have been back, but there is no lack of restaurants and variety in that area either, just depends what you like. There is a really good Japanese Restaurant that we often go to while there that cooks the food in front of you. I have forgotten the name, but perhaps someone living there will know and offer the name. I think it is just off I-270 and either Page or Olive in a shopping area on the top floor of a high rise building there!

You will do a LOT better following nosh's recommendations IMHO. I'd stay away from the Japanese place and follow some of the recommendations from the many prior threads. There's absolutely no reason you have to gamble to get good lodging and great food.

Would suggest staying in Clayton rather than downtown. For finer dining, The Crossing. For St. Louis pizza and toasted ravioli, Cafe Manhattan on Hanley. For burgers, the Fatted Calf. The weather isn't too bad, so get to Ted Drewe's in south city for frozen custard. Clayton is a bit west of the city limits, a bit west of Forest Park (definitely get to the zoo and art museum) and Washington University. Easy trip to and from the airport and downtown for the Arch and Old Courthouse.
