Anniversary Dinner. NEED HELP!!!!

Celebrating 4th year anniversary with my wife on Thurs 2/23. Only thing is she goes to class in North Scottsdale (85254) and is free at 8:00 pm.

Any suggestions? Only exceptions will be: sushi, Italian, steakhouse, and any "ultra-lounge" kind of scene. Maybe a place that's either vintage or quirky? We are not drinking as well. I'm trying to get a 8:30 reservation, so anything within 15 minutes of 85254 will be perfect.

I was debating between FnB or Citizen Public House (have not been to either).. Any suggestions? Sorry for all the prerequisites but thank you for your help!

  1. of those two based on your criteria FnB 100%

I would also throw T Cook's into the mix as well which is at the Royal Palms

    1. I think Rancho Pinot, and possibly Razz's, would also fit the cuisine and quirkiness requirements, and both are a bit closer to where your wife will be coming from than are FnB and Citizen Public House, both of which are fine choices as well. Indeed, Razz's is just south of Shea Blvd which I believe is more or less the southern boundary of 85254.

Of the two you mentioned, I would give the nod to FnB on the quirkiness dimension.

      Rancho Pinot
6208 N Scottsdale Rd, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253

      Razz's Restaurant & Bar
      10315 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85253

      7133 E Stetson Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

      Citizen Public House
      7111 E. 5th Avenue, Suite E, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

      1. Thank you for your suggestions!! I am leaning towards FnB.. but I'm not sure what I should order... I heard the braised leeks are a must. Although I must admit that the chopped salad at Citizen Pub seems amazing as well. Any suggestions on what to order? Willing to sacrifice ambiance for an amazing meal.

        1. So i got reservations at FnB... any suggestions on what to order?

You really can't go wrong. It depends on your personal taste, of course. I love the grilled broccoli and always enjoy whatever bite of cheese is being served.

Thanks! I heard the veggies are amazing there.. definitely order a few veggie dishes

You already mentioned the leeks, but make sure you get them if they're available. Since everything there is fresh and seasonal, the menu changes all the time, so I don't know what else is on their current menu, but you should love it.

I know you said you weren't drinking, but even if you don't want a glass of wine, after dinner you should check out Kazmiers- definitely meets the quirky criteria (hidden entrance, located down in a basement), and they usually have live music. Maybe have dessert there?

cactus...thanks for the Kaz rec...that place looks great and I'll be in town end of March and looks like the perfect place to have a drink and they have music too.

Thanks for the info! good call on desert! or does anyone know if FnB has a legit desert item?

                    1. re: crucial_TK

If they have lamb get the lamb (however it is prepared it will be awesome)

Their butterscotch pudding dessert is very good i would recommend that (if they are serving it)

I have heard someone else say their chocolate bread pudding is good on the forum but i have never personally had it so i cannot vouch for it

I have had a couple other interesting sounding desserts there but nothing i would have ordered again other than the butterscotch pudding

                      1. re: Dapuma

+1 on the butterscotch pudding. Last week husband had the grapefruit cake. It doesn't sound like much but, as usual at FnB, what sounds simple can be really phenomenal.

                        1. re: Dapuma

Thanks for the butterscotch suggestion. I appreciate your help, looking forward to dinner. Go Hotspurs! :)

After an outdoor concert in Scottsdale, we all went to Kaz bar (around 5pm) but it didn't open till 6pm..
Dang, this place looks fantastic with its decor and great wine list with small plates.
                        Next time but thanks cactus!

                2. FnB was great! Thanks!
We started off with the mozzarella leeks and split an order of the rock shrimp pasta. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and broccoli. The vegetables were amazing but the highlight to me was actually the shrimp pasta. The only disappointment were the leeks. It was just way too cheesy and made it difficult to serve & eat. I definitely will go there again. We had a seat right in front of the Chef (Payton Curry ??) and watching him work the kitchen was amazing. My total came out right at $60 (note that we did not order any alcohol), which I felt was a steal for such quality food.
