Who here really prefers the Double Filet-O-Fish over the regular Filet-O-Fish?

ipsedixit Feb 18, 2012 10:12 PM

This post is really just for Filet-O-Fish fans.

And for that audience, do any of you really like the Double over the regular?

To me, the Double just seems out of whack. Two patties means even a lower cheese to fish ratio, even a lower tartar sauce to fish ratio, all of which makes for a drier, denser, less synergistically delicious fish sandwich.

What say you? Are you a double or a single Fish-O-Filet fan?

I have never had the Double...I would agree with you on the balance so probably never will.

To me the Single Filet-O-Fish is perfect....always with extra Tarter Sauce which I scoop up with my fries....just had one yesterday!

How about the Filet-O-Fish with a square of the breakfast hash brown potatoes added in?

Didn't know they had a double filet o fish..
I have professed my love for the regular FoF....it's way better with french fries squished in with extra tartar...

Why aren't they adding the second half slice of cheese? If I order a double cheese burger I get a second slice of cheese, or is this simply a request to add a second filet? Not a true double then.

that was my feeling as well, I'm not going to say don't eat junk food, but if one is going to do it one should get the whole hog. if one is going to double the fish, then the cheese ought be doubled as well.

since it's about the only time I want cheese on/with fish it just sounds wrong. but that's enough about me.

If you're going double up that bad boy, which imho, is sacrilegious on our beloved Filet-O-'Fish, you've got to stay with double fish, double cheese..
Love cheese on everything but maybe it doesn't taste good...doubled up.

I think they need to take ipse's idea about the hash browns or fries squished in...
                  Winner..

I love me some double FoF, but cut the cheese. My taste says cheese and fish just don't mix!

While cheese and fish typically don't mix well, it does very well with a FoF.

That was my issue with it as well. More tartar sauce would be a godsend as well.

Yes IPS they are kinda dry, trouble is with McDees I ask for extra pickles or sauce on something and I get nothing at all, they just dont understand english so I now dont ask for fear I wont get anything. The FOF is overpriced IMHO unless you get 2 for price of one. I saw the regular price of a big mac the other day $4.09 - absurd.

Huh. I too didn't know they had a double. Love the single FoF but must try a double now.

A dab more tartar sauce even with the single would be nice, though.

Ipse, although our "Love Affair" for the Filet-O-Fish was deleted....I will honor this by going to McDonald's tomorrow and ordering a Perfect Filet-O-Fish (with extra tarter sauce) just for you...

The Double FOF would have only made sense if they had extended the length of the squishy bun and put each fish filet _side by side_ next to each other, instead of stacked like pancakes. In essence, make the Double a 'stretch limo' of the FOF world - twice as long, with each filet having it's own cheese slice and dollops of tartar sauce. Like a martini or a milkshake with a 'sidecar'; just when you begin feeling lonely ennui that the sandwich (like love) is ending - behold, a second bit of afternoon delight still awaits you. Pimp that yummy ride and stretch it side-by-side...

or better, ask "will that be stacked or siders?"

not gonna happen but we can dream. easier for them (and cheaper) to just do a two-fer instead of a long.

Alternatively, they might have opted for a double-decker FOF version of the Big Mac, extra layer of bread and all. They could have called it "The Fish Mac," which I suspect would have aroused a lot more interest than the likely DOA product they came up with here.

                              that's 'Big Mac-O-Rèal'

                              true mackerel is too oily

but I like the idea. would have been easier to sell than a 'double' as it sounds healthier even though it'd probably be even worse.

Only seen one of those once, and thought it was great. I did request extra tartar sauce on the side, and raw (not recon) onion. thich is my standard order for a single FOF, along with an orange drink, of course.. Best FOF ever, but a second slice of cheese might have made it even better.

It's been touched upon, but the key is getting it when the filet is fresh-made. Since the advent of warming trays and assembly-to-order, ordering anything with custom condiments no longer guarantees a fresh-made sandwich. Just the luck of the draw these days.
