St. Emilion area dining and wineries

Disappointed in our past visits for cuisine, love the village and area. Recommendations for both fine and casual dining, anyone? The Hostellerie de la Plaisance restaurant - wonderful or not? Is anyone aware of any wine maisons that are open for a tour without an appointment? Merci!

  1. I'd start here for chateaux (the same site has some resto listings, too)

I can't speak for certain about the St-Emilion office, but it's pretty common for heavily-visited offices of tourism to have several members of staff who speak anywhere from passable to extremely good English, so you can probably write to them in English if you have any questions.

    1. The Hostellerie de la Plaisance was wonderful when I ate there back in 2009. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and found everything to be wonderful. The service was impeccable. You will spend close to 350.00 per person, but I thought it was worth the price. We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the vineyards and the village and the experience was very memorable.

We also ate at L'huitre Pie. A nice casual place , friendly service, good food.

We love St Emilion. Most of the wine tours require appointments.

If you want a small winery in walking distance from the village call Le Chatelet. Patrick was the person who gave us a tour. He was very friendly and let us try many vintages of their wine.
