What non-alcohol item would you bring to a cocktail party?

Just wondering... if your hosts know much, much more about wine than you do, and you want to avoid flowers, what would you bring?

You can also bring a bottle of spirits instead of wine. A good bottle of bourbon, gin, or tequila is usually appreciated by all. Alternatively, a nice box of chocolates made by a local chocolatier (or Godiva) works too. And they can put them out with dessert.

Since they are in to wine, how about a nice decanter or bottle stopper? Or a unique set of wine glasses? A friend gave me a set of these nice little Italian glasses from Fishes Eddy for Christmas and I love them. http://www.fishseddy.com/browse.cfm/2...

Martinelli's Carbonated Apple Juice looks cool, is very yummy and fulfills the BYOB obligation.

Don't be intimidated by the host apparent knowledge of some things; if you want to give a gift of wine (or other kind of alcohol), just go to a store and talk to the staff, and choose something within your budget.

Or, bring something that you'd like to receive if someone gave it to you.

Flowers are always nice (even for men hosts), Chocolate or some other artisanal sweets (nougat, candies, caramels ) are always welcome.

I assume you mean a hostess gift rather than a food item for the party. Maybe some nice cocktail napkins or chocolate truffles or a cool cocktail shaker.
