Cocktail Bar (Classy/traditional) - Pegu or Raines

Pizza - Co. or Motorino
Deli Sandwich - Katz Pastrami and Russ & Daughters

Any other thoughts on must trys for first time visitors much appreciated

  1. Much will depend upon your friend's budget, level of adventurousness, and where they are traveling from.

Only in NY type foods that you may be missing: black and white cookies, cheesecake, egg creams, pickles, halal carts.

    See also scoopG's Chinatown list:

I highly recommend RGR's self guided Lower East Side Gustatory tour but sub in Pickle Guys for Guss' Pickles and note that Economy Candy's address is incorrect:

Here is a list of my favorites:

My favorite unique places in NY serve Xian (Chinese) food, Issan (Thai) food, organic/local/sustainable Japanese BBQ, authentic Basque (Spanish) tapas, creative diner food, pretzels, hot dogs, halal food, steak, upscale rustic Italian, Italian subs, creative Italian-American, high end non-sushi Japanese (like kaiseki), creative desserts, molecular gastronomy, mixology/creative cocktails, upscale brunches, and creative Asian, like at Momofuku Ssam Bar, Wong, Fatty Cue, Takashi, RedFarm.

    Momofuku Ssam Bar
    207 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003

456 Hudson St, New York, NY 10011

    Fatty 'Cue
50 Carmine St, New York, NY 10014

7 Cornelia St, New York, NY 10014

529 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

      Excellent, many thanks.

In addition then, travelling from England for four days, budget would need to be relatively low for meals, ie under 30pp on average. Would suggest are adventerous but was hoping to organise them a NY type food tour so suggestions of cheesecake and cookies etc is great
