Wed-Sun Sonoma trip in Sept 2012- Looking for Itinerary Ideas
Four couples are going to Sonoma and staying in a house in Carneros from Wed-Sun. Do any of you Chowdies by any chance have a good itinerary to at least start us off. It's a little overwhelming. So far the suggestions I've gotten include:
Girl + a Fig
Castillo De Amarosa
Greystoke Culinary School (for a meal)
Golden Haven Mud Baths
Domain Chandon (for lunch)
Any assistance woud be most appreciated.
Here is some advice on your itinerary.
First ,double-check whether the wineries you want to go to are open Wednesday or Sunday. Many are only open a few days a week.
Second, you are covering a large area of Sonoma and Napa. Please let us know what regions you are interested in. Also what types of wine, or wine experiences you want and price ranges. Same for restaurants.
You are staying equidistant from the wine regions of Sonoma and Napa. For example, it will take you 45 minutes to get to Unti Vineyard without traffic. It will take you 45 minutes to get to Castillo de Amarosa with moderate traffic.
You will be there long enough to do Sonoma and Napa - but do not try to drive between them on any particular day. It leads to heartache and traffic frustrations. Here is your itinerary split into regions. (Times are approximated by NO traffic - which in September it will be packed and there will be plenty of traffic).
Sonoma - Dry Creek (45 minutes Northwest of you) (Zin is big up here):
Sonoma - Russian River Valley (20 minutes West of you) (Pinot noir reigns here):
Sonoma - Alexander Valley + Sonoma the town (where you are staying) (Cab Sauv, Bordeaux Blends):
Girl + A Fig
Napa - (the length of Napa valley will take you 40 minutes to drive) (Cab. Sauv and Chardonnay):
Domain Chandon (w/in 10 minutes of you)
Castillo De Amarosa (w/ 30 minutes of you)
Greystone Culinary school (w/in 30 minutes of you)
Golden Haven Mud baths (w/in 1 hour of you)
