Four Restaurants, Four Neighborhoods, Five Nights

While we always love to go out to "nicer" restaurants we generally limit our selves to a few times per month. However, due to birthdays, Valentine's Day and scheduling limitations we ended up eating out quite a bit this past weekend. Our tour: Masona Grill in West Roxbury; The Blue Room in Cambridge; The Fireplace in Brookline; and Trade in the Financial District.

Best Dishes: Fried Oyster Appetizer at Masona Grill and Grilled Octopus Appetizer at The Blue Room. The best part about the fried oysters at MG were how lightly they were cooked to retain the texture and flavor just this side of raw.

Best Dish Honorable Mention: Whole Fish at Trade. An excellent dish but a tad too salty for my taste.

Most Consistent: Masona Grill. We've been there a number of times and the menu varies (which is great) yet the food is always satisfying.

Biggest Disappointment: The Fireplace. First of all, they insisted that Valentine's Day was really Valentine's Week. Although I didn't spot any couples canoodling on Sunday evening the special (very expensive) menu indicated that they were certainly expected. Even at the highest prices of our tour, the food was least enjoyable. Many dishes came from the kitchen lukewarm and did not live up to expectations.

Best Overall Experience: Trade. This was our first dinner at Trade and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a party of six and shared a number of small plates (all excellent) and a flat bread (also very good). We had heard that the room could be noisy but it wasn't deafening and we had a nice conversation.
