      1. March 9, 10 & 11 - Wine Road Barrel Tasting, 129 wineries in Northern Sonoma County

This is the second weekend of the annual event. Tickets can be purchased at any of the participating wineries and are good for the full weekend. I helped out at my friends' winery last weekend and can offer a few tips. 1) Wear dark clothes to avoid red wine stains. 2) Pack a lunch. This lets you avoid crowds during the 11:30am to 1pm lull when others are taking lunch break and you won't waste valuable time looking fo a place to eat. 3) Check out the smaller wineries and the ones that are NOT open to limos or groups larger than 8 for a more personalized experience. These are noted on the list of participating wineries. 4) Saturday is the busiest day, so have a good plan. Try to take in Friday and Sunday if you can to avoid crowds. 5) Download the iPhone app for maps, contact info, location service, lodging, etc. 6) Follow the #WRBT hashtag on twitter to see what's hot and special offers on the fly. Some of the wineries are really slashing prices on bottled wines and futures.

Fewer advance tickets were sold this year than prior years. The number of visitors to me looked like 10 years ago. So if you've been avoiding the event as it grew more popular, this would be the year to go. The weather will be gorgeous.
