Montreal after midnight this Friday, suggestions?
I love the fact many good resto's have the 3 course 22:00 menus, but I won't be arriving into town until after midnight. I read through the recent posting of all the amazing food i'll be too late to get.. at least friday.
Does anyone have any suggestions for decent food downtown that are open really late (1:00am). I care about food quality aboe all else. if it's the best poutine in town, or tortiere a hole in the wall, fine ining, all works, if it's open!
Bonus cred: walking distance or short cab from the Hyatt Regency Montreal, 1255 Jeanne Mance Street.
Thanks to all in advance.

For some higher-end choices, I think both Chien Fumant and L'Express would probably serve you at 1am. You could call to confirm - both are very good, especially considering the time.
Also, any establishment that wants to be a bar but only has a restaurant license will be serving food, such as Big in Japan.

re: BarackHObama
A matter of opinion. On my first two visits it was terrible, the next two it was good considering the price and late hour. My most recent meal there was great.
I wouldn't say there's much consistency in terms of quality of the dishes, but given the prices, serving sizes, and the fact that they serve until 3 its a reasonable option. But that said, it also isn't the best or only option after midnight.

The Main on St Laurent is 24 hours. It is across the street from Schwartz's. Some will claim that their smoked meat is better than Schwartz's, I disagree. But it will definitely prep you for the king. Their poutine is also very good. This is undoubtedly your best bet as it is also within walking distance of your hotel - if a 20 min walk doesn't bother you. Be warned, friday night on St Laurent might frighten you ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions. Chinese with the drunks might be a good time, as I'll probably do my best to at least join their path.
Don't worry about St Laurent scaring me hahaha. I've been there, and worse before.
Any specific recommendations for places / dishes in chinatown? VIP - 1077 Rue Clark was mentioned?

re: newtothegame
La Maison VIP (name is a misnomer!) is kind of hidden up some steps and very small -whenever I have gone they were always shooing people away but somehow would squeeze us in, or tell us to wait a few minutes. . I ve had a variety of items there including whole fish for a group (ordered ahead) and it was always tasty food, not spectacular but would certainly be fine for late night dining It has been there for ages and I havent been recently so glad to know its still around.

Many restos in Chinatown are open until at least 2 am - a very short walk south of your hotel. For poutine, La Banquise is open 24 hours. Grumman usually has their taco truck set up at Nouveau Palais from midnight to 2 or 3 am (although I'm not sure if they will be doing that this week, as they are set up at Montreal en Lumiere until 11 pm). There must be a thread on late-night dining somewhere here - do a search and you should find it. I know it's been discussed before.
