Ooh that's interesting. I think it's a good location for that. I have to be honest, Plainview is not that far but it's sort of a pain to go to for me. I'm excited about this new location.

I'm even more excited about Trader Joe's also coming to Westbury. Going into the brand new complex that is also to hold Shake Shack among a bunch of other stores. Traffic is going to be even more of a nightmare, if that is even possible.

It must be the universe’s way of balancing things. I covet all the farm fresh produce that you folks out on the Forks have in your backyards. Not to mention the seafood. I would give up the new Fairway in a heartbeat in exchange.

I know, you're right. And there is a place in Watermill that sells some Fairway brands (oil and vinegar etc) at the same price if I'm ever desperate. I'm just being greedy!

True, out here they only get a few months of big business. Maybe they can do a pop up some summer....

The ink is barely dry on the lease. I'd guess 3-6 months.

The Westbury opening countdown clock is up on the Fairway website - looks like August 22 will be opening day.

I'm good with the Plainview location. But if only Wegmans would come to LI!

i once emailed wegmans and they told me that they wouldn't be coming to LI because it isn't in close proximity to any of their distribution centers. I told them that is quite a stupid answer because there is a location in Woodbridge NJ right on the other side of Staten Island. I don't recall what their response was after that.

I'll respond for them: it's not stupid, Wegman's is talking about paying tolls on the bridges, is what it is. Adds a lot to their costs of operation, which they would have to pass on to you, and then you wouldn't like that their prices were so much higher than the locals. Right now here on LI a company is in the process of building freight train short lines to fix that problem. Looks like it's good to go, from what I see. No grocery stores lined up yet though.

And how do they get stuff to Woodbridge without tolls? Bridge tolls are nothing compared to the NJ Turnpike.

                  Take the back roads?

Like US 1? That will cost them more in gas from sitting in traffic than they will save in tolls.

Hopefully they have a few stops routed on the way. I don't know, just speculating, routing delivery trucks is an art that I don't possess. But all the routers I know are pretty stressed out most of the time!
