Ventana- Big Sur
Stellar, in every sense, was the operating word for an incredible meal at Ventana last week. But first,over a cocktail, we witnessed a jaw-dropping sunset at the Post Ranch Inn. Then onto the Ventana. We dined outdoors on the terrace; a fire was blazing and overhead was the most awesome display of stars. We each had three courses and all were terrific. Really nice execution and primo ingredients. Highlights included serrano ham on caviar lentils with truffle vinaigrette, arugula salad with sweet potatoes and vanilla-bean vinaigrette, (yes, it worked beautifully) and salmon steamed in a banana leaves infused with herbs and a lobster nage; completely intoxicating and perfectly cooked with pieces of tender lobster swimming alongside. I sipped on a yummy single barrel California brandy by Germain-Robin; warm, honeyed tones. We had a perfectly enchanting, relaxing and memorable evening. What a beautifully captivating real piece of heaven on earth.
