Vinishas, Lewisham, London

Read about this new Sri Lankan place on Hollow Legs. Being a massive hoppers fan I started dreaming of a visit immediately.

So we hopped on the overground yesterday and made our way out to Lewisham to check out Vinishas. End result (and I hate to write anything negative) = disappointing apart from the hoppers which were great. The killer is that the place has potential, but our meal just wasn't good enough.

The breakdown

4 x (coconut) milk appam. A bit sweet but loved the creaminess of the appam. Far and away the highlight and worth the trip
1 x veg parotta kottu. Pretty good flavour and nice combination of veg. Not quite as hot as most places in East Ham. Not 100% sure it was made to order though.
1 x pittu. They usually complex and delicious coconut rice log was tough and tasted like it had been sitting around for a few hours
1 x spinach and dhal curry. A bit bland, difficult to find fresh spinach right now so our fault for ordering the wrong dish
1 x mixed veg curry. Really nice.

It wasn't that busy and that's the shame of it. The quality of cooking felt like it could be quite high if they really wanted to stretch themselves and create something great, but with slow turnover they have fallen into the trap of not cooking to order.

Willing to give it a second chance. Or if any of you lurkers or otherwise have been let us know your thoughts.

Finally, if you have a hot tip for spectacularly good appams/hoppers let me know!
