Places for College Kids to eat...

Bringing a dozen college golfers down for Spring Break, boys and girls Would like some suggestions for places to eat that are unique and fun. We are from Iowa (dont hold that against us.) Considering price and atmosphere, what, or where would you recommend. We are staying in N. Scottsdale. We would like a wide variety...we are there Mon-Friday...thanks...

  1. Carlos O' Briens in Scottsdale...great happy hour for food deals.

    1. Go for green chile cheeseburgers at Greasewood Flat. They're not true New Mexico style GCCBs, just a cheeseburger with a piece of whole roasted green chile on top. Still, pretty good. Beautiful surroundings, especially at sunset. They have live country music Thursday through Sunday. It is technically a bar, but families go there all the time.

Is the Monastery still around...that was a fun place back in the days.

The only Monastery now is in Mesa, and I don't recommend the drive from N. Scottsdale unless you are really into sand volleyball. However, in the N. Scottsdale area I would recommend Four Peaks Brewery (101 & Frank Lloyd Wright). Great local beer & food and a fun atmosphere.

Greasewood Flat is an excellent suggestion. If you are going as far north as Cave Creek there are several fun places up there depending on what they like. Bryan's BBQ is excellent. Harold's & The Horny Toad are fun.

Is there anything specific you are looking for? Or any more specifics on the area that you'll be in? Will you be going down near Old Town Scottsdale at all?

We are staying at the Zona Hotel and Suites....playing golf at Vista Verde -
McDowell Mountain - TPC – Champions Course & Legends Trail.
Any places you can recommend close to those after a round of golf?
Just trying to find something different than the Applebees and Buffalo Wild Wings stuff we can get here and take in the local flavor. We ventured down to The Library a couple of years ago and the kids like being around the ASU campus even though it was Spring Break there as well....
love the the local breweries for the chaperones....the kids are underage, but it doesnt stop me from sampling the local fares! Old Town Scottsdale sounds interesting, what can we find there?

              Over Easy
              Decent breakfast
              9375 E Bell Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

              In-n-Out Burger
Fast food. Very limited menu. Research secret menu before going. Some consider this a "bucket list" item.
7467 E Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

              Habanero's Mexican Grill
Fast casual, smaller. I think the quality is above average.
14870 North Northsight Blvd, Suite 106, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

              White Chocolate Grill
A step above similar chain food. Maybe a little pricier than what you're looking for?
              7000 E Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85054

              Los Olivos
Not as good as Habanero's, IMO, but, full service, and much bigger facility. Typical Sonoran style Mexican, above average bang for your buck for Scottsdale.
              15544 N Pima Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

              Persian Room
I love this place, and should go more often. The website seems to have an issue, at the moment.
              17040 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

I see they don't allow minors in at Greasewood Flats, unless accompanied by a parent. Sent them an email wondering about chaperons. See what they say...sounds fun! Thanks.
