Birthday Dinner: a return to EMP? J-G? Modern? Too indecisive for my own good..
Hi again CH!
Last October, you were all very helpful and I ended up taking my girlfriend to Eleven Madison Park for her birthday, an experience which stands as the best meal of my life. Now, my birthday is coming up in March and that means reservation calendars are opening up soon. My short list is:
* Back to Eleven Madison Park (had the tasting in October, am really really really interested in having the duck on a 4-course)
* Jean-Georges (have never been)
* Momofuku Ko (have never been, but will have to try for reservations after making another due to calendars)
* The Modern Dining Room (have only been for lunch).
I'm also completely open to suggestions. I'm not a big fan of Italian food (although I just had a divine meal at Marea for Valentine's day), so I didn't consider Italian places. I'd like to keep it in this price range - I haven't done Per Se, but will save that for maybe our anniversary this summer.
EDIT to add: I've also considered a J-G lunch and an EMP dinner (spread over a weekend) if I want to get decadent...
Both EMP and Momofuku Ko are among my most favorite restaurants anywhere so you can't go wrong with either. Just had dinner last week at Ko, and it was another brilliant meal. The duck at EMP is excellent, and deserves its fame. I'm not much of a fan of The Modern Dining Room. Jean-Georges is excellent, but I haven't been there in a few years. Here's a plan for pure decadence: lunch at EMP, and dinner at Ko--I've got to do that someday!
Eleven Madison Park
11 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10010
1 Central Park W, New York, NY 10023
9 West 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019
163 1st Ave, New York, NY 10003
All four are great restaurants, though The Modern and Momofuku Ko are my favorite of the four. I've had service issues related to timing at EMP, but I imagine it was more of an anomaly. You can't go wrong with any of them honestly.
If you want to do Jean Georges lunch and EMP dinner, why not? Go for it.
