Tipping etiquette for grocery delivery? [Moved from Quebec Board]

My roommate and I started to have our groceries delivered from PA groceries. We usually pay an additional $2.50-5.00 on top of our bill for the delivery. Since we are new to this, we have no idea whether or not to tip, since we really don't have anything else delivered to our apartment anyways. Do you guys tip? If so, how much? Thanks!

When I get FreshDirect, I tip. Depends on what's in my wallet since I rarely have cash. Anywhere from $3-5. I live in a Manhattan high rise where delivery people have to use service entrance, wait for elevator, bring to unit, etc.

I don't have groceries delivered but when I do have a clerk help me out to the car and load it up for me, I'll give him/her a couple of $

Interesting thread. I work for a grocery delivery company and our drivers do not expect tips. The odd time they do receive it, everyone back at the office hears because it usually accompanies a story that they tell 8-10 times the next day.

Well, I am answering this from my viewpoint, which is I grew up in the food business and in the USA. So I would say yes. The delivery fee, I would see as covering those items you would have spent had you gone yourself, the car, gas, car insurance etc. The tip would be for the service. Did the person carry them in for you, were they nice, eggs not crushed etc? And do we want to have good service in the future for the service. Those I think are the valid points,

            Good question.

The only time I get groceries delivered is when I am having a party, and need to buy a large quantity of liquid (boxes of sparkling water, fruit juices, soda, beer....). I usually end up tipping because I feel bad about how heavy the boxes are. They do have a delivery fee, so, I am not sure if we are *supposed* to always tip.
