Chinatown Breakfast Feast $5.65 2/11/12

  • 5

First stop was Century Cafe. These guys are the real deal purveyors of Congee. $1.65 buys a healthy serving of chicken congee, which comes packed with flimsy bean curd sheets and slivers of fresh ginger. Next stop was Sun Light Bakery, cheung fan experts. I ordered it with watercress, a superlative combination. The fresh vegetable cooked to a beautiful shade of green. I also got my sticky rice stuffed with chicken, sausage, maybe some mushroom..these guys are your breakfast kings on this lawless stretch of East Broadway. This stop set me back $3. Last I found myself on Mott south of Canal, at the open window offering steamed pork buns. Last time I went they were 90 cents and now they are $1, but thats 2012 for you. I don't see myself having lunch for another few hours

  1. I think Bread Talk on Catherine St. will give you a run for your money (so to speak) on a variety of items.

Nice I'll try their Jook (congee). Do you know what kinds they offer? Seems like everyone does the pork and thousand year eggs, personally I used to eat it several times a week at Ming's Caffe for breakfast but I don't really mess with it anymore
