Something similar to The Smith, but better food

Hey all, looking for a place with a similar vibe (lively, fun, not exceedingly loud) and prices (mains ~$20) to The Smith for a group of 6 on a Friday night. Over a month away so plenty of time to make reservations. I've only been to The Smith once, thought the food was decent and would go back, but I'm sure there is better. Guests are not super adventurous, but i don't want anything boring. A couple places I haven't been to, but was considering until I realized it may be too expensive for this dinner: The Dutch, Bar Boulud. Suggestions appreciated.....what about Acme? That seems to be getting some love on here, sounds like it could be a good scene, good food. Found a menu here:
Are the items under Sea/Land the mains? If so, this could work.

  1. Acme could work, but rezzies could be tough, especially for a Friday night group that large. And yes, the Sea/Land offerings are mains.

Also, a little less adventurous, Schiller's Liquor Bar - pretty straighforward food like The Smith, quality's a little better, also a little more sceney.

I remember your review of Acme, one of the reasons I'm considering it actually. I just see an email to make reservations no #. Any idea what there policy is?

nevermind. # is right there on the website too

          Policy about what?

The phone doesn't always work with them - or at least it didn't at first. Might still be email only.
