vegan/vegetarian friendly non-chain restaurants near Union Station Toronto

Hi All,

Meeting up with friends for lunch near the Metro Convention Centre/Union Station in Toronto. We'd like to avoid chain restaurants such as East Side Mario's and Lonestar Texas Grill. We'll be dining with a vegetarian and vegan so that limits our selection. We're also looking for a place that's not over-priced theatre district or financial district expensive if such a place exist.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

  1. Queen Mother.

    Queen Mother
206 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V1Z2, CA

    1. Khao San Road has quite a few veggie-friendly options if you ask for them. They have some vegan curry pastes, "fish" sauce, etc.

      Khao San Road
      326 Adelaide St W, Toronto, ON M5V 1P7, CA

      1. Mercatto on Bay, Tutti Matti and Paese serve some vegetarian dishes. Could easily ask any of the restaurants to hold the prosciutto/cheese in some of the paninis, pastas or pizzas.

Le Select serves several vegetarian dishes, but most contain dairy. It would be easy to ask Le Select to hold the chevre in the beet salad, and it couldn't hurt to ask in advance if they'd make a vegan risotto. It's within a 20 minute walk of the MTCC.

Babur and Trimurti's lunch buffets might work. Might want to check which veg dishes contain dairy.

Takesushi is ok, and serves miso, various tofu dishes and vegetarian rolls that the Vegan would be able to eat.

        Tutti Matti
364 Adelaide St W, Toronto, ON M5V1R7, CA

22 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5J1C4, CA

265 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V1Z4, CA

        Le Select
432 Wellington St W, Toronto, ON M5V1E3, CA

273 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V1Z9, CA

        Mercatto On Bay
330 Bay Street, Toronto, ON M5H 2S8, CA

333 King St W, Toronto, ON M5V, CA

        1. Go to the Food Court at Eaton Centre. Not a sit-down restaurant, but Urban Herbivore is there and they have delicious vegan food - suggest your vegan friends try the coconut curry - and take a sweet potato date muffin for the road. Probably not exactly what you're looking for since you seem to be looking for a sitdown restaurant, but I thought it was worth a mention.
