Steakhouses in Vancouver

When it comes to Vancouver we have a couple steak houses. my question at this point is what is the draw to each of them? So many have their signature style and recipes that make them unique. Quite often a steakhouse is a steakhouse but then their are the ones that blow you away. Just that little touch of something amazing sets the place above all the rest.

My question to the wonderful minds of chowhound is, which are your favorite steakhouses in Vancouver and what separates them from your average steakhouse.

My favorite by far is Hy's . The fact that they stick to the roots and have a flame grill sets it off. The place represents class and. To top it off they have the best cheese bread ever made.

lets hear is chowhounders!

There's a butcher in West Van called Sebastian. He's got 40 day dry aged grass fed only beef. Cook it yourself. I've not had better steak in Vancouver

for classic real vancouver - regardless of tastes etc etc - Hy's ---- and then for sure, the Keg & Cleaver (remember when it went by that name?) is an original - yes it's a chain but it started with Vancouver spirit with Mr Capozzi and Mr Tidball et al

re: your specific question - it's hard to find consistent good steak in vancouver (or any city possibly) isn't it? Steak is one of the items that we usually order because i don't make it at home ... so it's hit and miss. i'm from the woodwards days .. when the steak came from cattle that actually roamed the range. that was beef. not really an answer to your question but i look fwd to reading other input.

I've been to Hy's probably 5 times in my life and have never once enjoyed my meal -- I hate the old-school atmosphere, the steaks aren't as good as Gothams (Canadian prime vs US), and the table-side caesar salad is beyond gross (and passe).

Vancouver isn't really a much of a steakhouse town.
